Im Jahr 2009 wurde der Pädophile Jimmy Savile von der Polizei in Surrey und Sussex unter Vorsicht befragt. Anschließend verwies die Polizei vier Fälle an die Staatsanwaltschaft (Crown Prosecution Service, CPS) mit der Behauptung, Savile habe mindestens drei lernbehinderte Mädchen unter 16 Jahren vergewaltigt. Die Staatsanwaltschaft lehnte nach Erhalt der Akten von der Polizei eine Strafverfolgung Saviles ab und stellte das Verfahren mit der Begründung „unzureichende Beweise” ein. Nach Saviles Tod und trotz mehrfacher Versuche, die Sache auf höchster Ebene zu vertuschen, wissen wir heute, dass er über einen Zeitraum von vier Jahrzehnten mindestens 500 bekannte Opfer missbraucht hat.
