The problem for the scientific community is not that its leaders got the pandemic wrong. To err is human. It's that they abandoned:
1) Evidence-based medicine
2) Basic principles of public health
3) Open scientific discussion
4) Academic freedom

Since the @washingtonpost story about a possible role for me in the new administration as @nih director, I have been overwhelmed by kind messages and media requests.
That decision has not yet been made, as far as I know. No matter what happens, I will do my best in the coming years, in whatever role I have, to help support the reform of the American scientific and public health institutions after the covid era fiasco so that they work for the benefit of the American people.
I am grateful to all of you for your kind thoughts and prayers, and I beg forgiveness if I have not had a chance to respond to your message yet.

There are people in American academia whose primary purpose is akin to the political commissars who policed Soviet academics against wrongthink. They operate by smearing, insinuation, and ostracization rather than reason, of which they have little.

Bittersweet to see children's charities finally find their voice. The harm was predictable and predicted and might have been stopped had it not been left for a vanishingly small number of us - @UsforThemUK and a few brave professionals and journalists - to stand against the lockdown juggernaut in spring 2020.
If any of these organisations feel like putting their newfound courage to the test, the unexplained excess death spike in younger cohorts and their parents would be a great place to start.

I despised GBD in 2020/21 while in trenches with people proned and vented for weeks with Covid. Many died.
Then one night I interacted with @DrJBhattacharya and expressed my disagreement.
Since then, I’ve re-evaluated my stance on Covid policies and realized that we were all 🐑.
Why is @anya1anya falsely claiming that "right-wing dark money" was behind our efforts to open schools? Is her goal to promote the right or to cleanse dark money??? It was actually just basic public health thinking and trying to protect children.
