BIST DU WÜTEND? Gut. Aber genau diese Wut wurde dir heute Morgen serviert – zusammen mit einer Zahl, die so gut wie niemand hinterfragt.
Überall liest du gerade: 45,1 % der unter 40-jährigen Muslime seien islamismusaffin. Die WELT macht daraus „Scharia statt Grundgesetz“, garniert mit Bildern von Iran-Protesten, Polizeieinsätzen und Bedrohung. Die Botschaft ist klar: Habt Angst. Das Problem sitzt mitten unter euch.
Und jetzt kommt der Moment, in dem dieses Kartenhaus wackelt.
Denn diese 45,1 % klingen, als hätte man die rund 5,5 Millionen Muslime in Deutschland befragt. Hat man aber nicht. Diese Zahl stammt aus einer gewichteten Teilstichprobe innerhalb einer allgemeinen Bevölkerungsbefragung. Der MOTRA-Monitor befragt nicht einfach „die Muslime in Deutschland“, sondern arbeitet mit einer Stichprobe aus der Gesamtbevölkerung, die statistisch gewichtet wird. 2025 waren das 4.458 Personen, über mehrere Jahre insgesamt 21.899. Erst innerhalb dieser Stichprobe gibt es Menschen, die sich selbst als muslimisch bezeichnen, und innerhalb dieser Gruppe wird dann noch einmal auf die unter 40-Jährigen geschaut.
Mit anderen Worten: Aus einer statistisch modellierten Teilstichprobe wird gerade eine Schlagzeile gebaut, die klingt, als spreche sie über Millionen. Und das allein wäre schon brisant genug. Aber jetzt wird es erst richtig interessant.
Im selben Bericht steht nämlich auch noch eine andere Zahl, die heute fast niemand laut sagt: Fast 43 % der Befragten zeigen muslimfeindliche Einstellungen. Mehr als 28 % davon sogar manifest. Also offen, hart, feindselig. Wenn man dieselbe brutale Hochrechnungslogik anwendet, mit der heute aus einer kleinen muslimischen Untergruppe eine nationale Zeitbombe gebaut wird, landet man plötzlich bei ungefähr 10 Millionen Menschen in Deutschland mit manifest muslimfeindlicher Haltung. Und in Deutschland leben insgesamt nur etwa 5,5 Millionen Muslime. Doch wie viele von denen stehen hinter dem Islam?
Die größere Zahl steht also im selben Bericht. Aber zur Bedrohung erklärt wird heute nur die andere.
Warum?
Weil Geschichten in den Medien selten einfach so erzählt werden, wie sie sind. Sie werden so erzählt, wie sie gerade gebraucht werden. Mal passt der Rechtsruck ins Bild. Mal passt das Islam-Feindbild ins Bild. Und heute scheint offenbar genau die Bedrohung gefragt zu sein, die sich mit Iran, Polizei, Protest und innerer Gefahr aufladen lässt.
Und dann kommt der nächste Trick, den man in der Schlagzeile komplett plattwalzt.
Von diesen 45,1 % sind laut Bericht nur 11,5 % manifest. Der deutlich größere Teil, 33,6 %, wird als latent eingeordnet. In normalem Deutsch heißt das eben nicht automatisch: Diese Menschen wollen morgen die Scharia einführen. Es heißt nur, dass manche Befragte bei mehreren Aussagen so geantwortet haben, dass sie in einem Einstellungsindex als zustimmend oder anfällig eingeordnet wurden. Das ist etwas völlig anderes als die mediale Verkürzung: „Die wollen Scharia statt Grundgesetz.“ Also nicht: alle wollen den Gottesstaat. Sondern: Einige Antworten wurden in einem Messschema in diese Richtung eingeordnet. Genau aus diesem Unterschied wird draußen dann die grobe Sirene „Scharia statt Grundgesetz“ gebaut. Aus einer Grauzone wird ein Alarm. Aus einem Fragebogen wird ein Feindbild.
Und genau hier zeigt sich die alte Technik, die Le Bon beschrieben und Bernays perfektioniert hat: Erst das Angstbild. Dann das Gefühl. Dann die Zahl, die das Gefühl scheinbar bestätigt. Erst Iran. Erst Protest. Erst Polizei. Erst Bedrohung. Und dann die Statistik, die dein Gehirn alles zusammenkleben lässt. Nicht damit du prüfst. Nicht damit du nachdenkst. Sondern damit du reagierst.
Darum sind die wichtigsten Fragen auch nicht die, die man dir heute schon vorgekaut serviert, sondern die, die man dir gerade nicht stellen will:
Warum genau diese Zahl? Warum genau heute? Warum genau in dieser Bildsprache? Warum wird die eine Hälfte des Berichts mit Alarm gespielt und die andere fast unsichtbar gehalten? Wem nützt es, wenn der Islam in Deutschland wieder als akutes Innen-Feindbild aufgebaut wird, während Iran, Israel und die USA ohnehin jede Schlagzeile dominieren? Wem nützt Angst? Wem nützt Spaltung?
Denn ein Volk in Angst stellt weniger Fragen. Ein Volk in Angst schluckt Aufrüstung leichter. Ein Volk in Angst lässt sich leichter in geopolitische Härte treiben. Und genau deshalb ist es so aufschlussreich, dass Medien, die sonst bei jeder Gelegenheit vor Rechtsruck und AfD-Narrativen warnen, heute plötzlich lieber die Geschichte vom muslimischen Innen-Feind erzählen. Einfach weil sie gerade die Geschichte trägt, die gebraucht wird. Hinzu kommt, dass diese Geschichte wieder die Spaltung innerhalb der Gesellschaft fördert.
Am Ende bleibt deshalb eben nicht die simple Geschichte übrig, dass „die Muslime das Problem“ seien. Übrig bleibt etwas viel Unbequemereres und viel Wahreres: Wir haben ein massives, gegenseitiges Feindbild- und Radikalisierungsproblem in dieser Gesellschaft. Aber genau diese Wahrheit verkauft sich schlechter. Sie taugt nicht für einfache Schlagzeilen. Sie taugt nicht für Mobilmachung. Sie taugt nicht für Angstpolitik. Darum wird die eine Zahl aufgeblasen und die andere verschwiegen.
Hinterfragt die Schlagzeile. Hinterfragt die Methodik. Hinterfragt die Bilder. Hinterfragt den Zeitpunkt. Recherchiert selbst. Und fragt euch immer: WEM NÜTZT ES?

And that's why it's so revealing that media that otherwise warn against right-wing and AfD-narratives, today suddenly prefer to tell the story of the Muslim inner enemy. Just because she's wearing the story that's needed. In addition, this story again promotes the division within society.
In the end, it is not the simple story that “the Muslims are the problem”. There is something much more uncomfortable and much more true: we have a massive, mutual enemy and radicalization problem in this society. But this truth sells worse.
