R to @hussedogru: Pablo Escobar’s son revealed the connection in his book Pablo Escobar In Fraganti.
R to @hussedogru: CIA & Drug Enforcement Agency pilot Barry Seal trafficked cocaine for Pablo Escobar’s Medellin cartel, helping them grow their market position. The CIA deliberately allowed cocaine to be moved around in order to fund the anti-socialist Contras in Nicaragua.
R to @hussedogru: During the 1950s, the anti-communist Kuomintang (KMT) forces had fled to Myanmar after losing the Chinese Civil War. To fund their fight against Mao’s China, the CIA facilitated their entry into opium trafficking. This helped to turn Myanmar into a major player in the global heroin trade.
As videos of Mexico’s cartels burning cities spread, here’s some context: this didn't emerge out of nowhere. The U.S. "war on drugs" and CIA-linked Cold War operations helped empower trafficking networks—funding militias and entrenching a drug trade that still destabilizes regions today.

Meet Hüseyin Doğru, a Turkish-German journalist. The EU has frozen his bank accounts, saying he spread pro‑Russia disinformation. He says he is being punished for his reporting on Gaza. This is the same EU that often tells other countries to respect “free speech.”

People could face up to 5 years in prison for delivering groceries or a food parcel to German journalist @hussedogru in Berlin, says @intifada
European officials appear to be falsely denying that @hussedogru is a German citizen, based on his ethnicity.
Germany has done this before — to Jewish citizens, before far worse followed https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/ali-abunimah/eu-sanctions-german-journalist-shocking-first-over-gaza-reporting

We have to link up and fight back internationally- the ruling class is attacking our right to speak out, our right to protest our right to campaign against war occupation and genocide.
@RSF_en has press releases from Turkey, Russia, India ... but for almost a year they've said nothing about the @EU_Commission's extra judicial abuse of journalist @hussedogru.
He's sanctioned without any trial and the EU commission won't even say what they accuse him of.
What about @cpj, @Irenekhan, @hrw and all those orgs who "really care" about freedom of expression.
Las sanciones europeas contra el periodismo libre y crítico deberían preocuparnos a todxs.

This is terrifying. Gaza is everywhere now. Starving a German born journalist and his family, including two newborn twins, for the crime of writing accurately on Gaza.
