Helium is not a luxury commodity. It is the irreplaceable coolant for MRI machines in hospitals, the pressurisation agent for rockets, and most critically right now the superconducting coolant for quantum computers and the liquid cooling systems that make large-scale AI infrastructure physically possible. You cannot substitute another gas. Helium’s properties are unique. When supply drops, the applications depending on it do not slow down gracefully. They stop.
Approximately 30 percent of global helium supply transits through or originates from facilities in the Gulf region affected by Hormuz closure. Qatar is one of the world’s largest helium producers. QatarEnergy already declared force majeure on LNG contracts weeks ago. The helium supply chain was always the next domino and the Wall Street Journal just confirmed it has fallen.
The detail about hundreds of specialised cryogenic containers each worth $1 million sitting stranded in the Middle East is the operational consequence nobody was discussing publicly until today. These containers are not interchangeable with standard shipping equipment. They require specific handling, specific temperatures, specific logistics chains. Stranded containers means stranded helium means stranded supply chains for every downstream industry depending on them.
Airgas cutting customers to 50 percent of contracted supply while adding a $13.50 per hundred cubic feet surcharge is the corporate equivalent of a force majeure flag on the entire American industrial gas sector. Every hospital system, every semiconductor fabrication plant, every AI data centre, every university physics department, every space programme using liquid helium cooling is now receiving the same letter.
The war that was supposed to last four to six weeks has now disrupted the physical infrastructure of the artificial intelligence industry that the entire American technology economy depends on for its next decade of growth.
$4.8 trillion in S&P market cap erased. Gas above $4.00. Healthcare being cut to fund the war. And now the coolant keeping AI data centres operational is running short because a chokepoint Washington just quietly admitted it will not reopen is blocking 30 percent of the world’s helium supply.
The Strait of Hormuz is not just an oil problem. It never was.
My best guess is that we have bottomed now.

The woman who formally ran the Rosemead counseling center at Biola University filed an amicus brief in this case that took the same position as far left Justice Jackson. She didn’t want Christian counselors to be able to tell gender-confused kids that God fearfully and wonderfully made them male and female. She didn’t want Christian counselors to be able to help kids overcome their gender dysphoria and embrace their created identity.
After I reported on this at @realDailyWire, she was removed from her position.
This is the power of real journalism, investigating Christian institutions. It isn’t done to attack them, it’s to preserve them.
