The term "theological liberalism" is thrown around a lot.
When push comes to shove though, it still boils down to Richard Niebuhr's summation of what theological liberalism truly is: "A God without wrath brought men without sin into a kingdom without judgment through the ministrations of a Christ without a cross" (Kingdom of God in America, 193).
Liberal/progressive Christianity is more than that but it is no less than that, and it will always come down to it. Niebuhr's words 89 years ago are just as applicable in 1937 as they are today.

The government could make accessing services easier without building an app that creates a comprehensive logbook of our lives.
Almost 3 million people have already made it clear that they do not want a digital ID in one of the biggest petitions in British history and politicians across all parties opposed the mandatory scheme.
A citizen’s assembly should not be used to manufacture legitimacy for the government’s highly unpopular preordained agenda. Even the Cabinet is split on digital ID, with ministers reportedly refusing to hand over our NHS records and our children’s education files for the digital ID scheme.
What confidence can the public have to hand over their private information when the risks to their privacy and security are so high?

I actually think @ashishkjha did excellent work in this series identifying how policy choices created the consolidation and pricing power we see in healthcare today.
But the conclusion is strange.
He correctly identifies that regulation distorted markets and eliminated price signals.
Then proposes… more price fixing.
Medicare prices are not some objective benchmark grounded in economic reality. They are administratively set prices created through a political process.
Using one price fixing system to fix the distortions caused by another is how you get deeper distortions.
The real solution is restoring price signals where markets can function, combined with a generous safety net for those who cannot participate in them.
More administrative pricing will simply produce more lobbying, more consolidation, and more crony capitalism.

Ich ermittle derzeit Umstände im Insolvenzverfahren über das Vermögen eines typischen deutschen Mittelständlers aus dem Maschinenbau.
Man erkennt, wie seit etwa 2022 die Liquiditätslücke rapide wächst. Die Schuldnerin gerät immer mehr in Verzug bei Ihren Lieferanten. Auch diese sind auf die Zahlungen der Schuldnerin angewiesen.
Auf dem Weg ins Insolvenzverfahren (Anfang 2025) reißt die Schuldnerin so noch drei Geschäftspartner mit ins Insolvenzverfahren.
In all den Jahren nahm die Schuldnerin die Leistungen einer Sanierungsberaterin in Anspruch. Die Kosten für die Beratung wurden (ganz oder zum Teil?) mit öffentlichen Fördermitteln finanziert.
Die Insolvenz der Schuldnerin war nicht allein das Ergebnis einer schlechten Wirtschaftspolitik. Aber politische Fehler führen zu solchen Ergebnissen.
Es ist die Interventionsspirale, die hier am Ende mindestens 3 weitere Unternehmen in die Tiefe gerissen hat.
Der seit Jahren zu beobachtende Fokus auf Sanierung, statt Liquidation (ob freiwillig oder im Insolvenzverfahren), die Förderung nicht förderwürdiger Unternehmen mit öffentlichen Mitteln, die erhebliche Lockerung der Insolvenzanfechtung (Reform 2017 und Rechtsprechungsänderung 2021 durch den IX. Zivilsenats), die Lieferanten dazu verleitet, auch bei deutlichen Krisenanzeichen die Geschäftsbeziehung fortzusetzen, statt zu konsolidieren und neue Kunden zu finden und nicht zuletzt die aufgrund des Drucks stets erfolgende bevorzugte Befriedigung öffentlicher Gläubiger (Finanzämter, Krankenkassen) in der Unternehmenskrise, führt zu immer mehr Verfahren ohne Masse. Das schwächt die Wirtschaft (auch auf Kosten des Staates).
@fdp , @spdbt und @cducsubt entwickelten beginnend in den späten 70er Jahren bis Mitte der 90er Jahre die Insolvenzordnung, die schließlich 1999 in Kraft trat und sich international als eines der effizientesten Insolvenzregime erwies.
Aber etliche Nachbesserungen, auch auf Druck der Beraterbranche, privater Gläubiger und im Interesse des Fiskus sowie die Rechtsprechung der letzten Jahre haben die Insolvenzordnung so verwässert, dass ihr die ordnungspolitische Funktion abhanden gekommen ist.
So verdrängen Gesetze bzw. Novellen und Rechtsprechung die normative Kraft des Faktischen durch die faktische Kraft überbordender Normen.
Am Ende reißt es so nicht nur einen Marktteilnehmer in den Abgrund, was die übrigen stärken könnte; sondern gleich mehrere. Schon Goethe formulierte in Selige Sehnsucht: "Stirb und Werde!"
Man kann nur hoffen, dass auch die Regierungsparteien begreifen, dass weniger manchmal mehr ist und es langfristig schadet, wenn man mit immer neuen Interventionen die realen Probleme nur kaschiert. Es wäre zu wünschen, dass die Politik im Land der Dichter und Denker sich wieder ihrer großen Geister besinnt. Aber das bleibt vermutlich eine selige Sehnsucht.
