I was 35 and I remember the exact moment my 'baby brain' switched on.
I was in front of the cold meat counter at Westbourne Grove Sainsbury's and there was a little baby in a trolley.
She must have been about a year old.
My stomach actually did a flip-flop and instantly and I mean, instantly, I wanted to have a baby.
Prior to that I wasn't interested at all. I had been focused on completing my studies and starting work as a psychologist.
But, after that moment I literally could not stop thinking about being a mother.
My feelings were, as transition pushers say, 'insistent, consistent and persistent'.
It is utterly unconscionable that 10-year olds are being asked whether they will ever want to have children.
Children between 10 and 16 are busy in the process of identity formation, establishing autonomy away from their parents and managing relationships with peers.
They have not yet reached the psychological stage where the reproductive drives switch on and start to shape behaviour.
These children are wholly incapable of comprehending, much less answering this question.
Asking a 10-16 year old if they may want to have children say 20 years in the future, is like asking a 30-year old to start to prepare psychologically for death.
It is developmentally incongruent.
And the kids simply cannot give a straight answer.
The people running the trial know this too.

Wäre das Medium links, hätten dessen Protagonisten ein Dauerabo bei Lanz, Maischberger und dem ganzen Rest.
Erinnert sich wer noch an die Posse von vorletzter Woche, als @dieLinke ein Gutachten von @DIW_Berlin vorgestellt hat und stolz verkündete, das DIW hätte behauptet, eine Vermögenssteuer wäre irgendwie vorteilhaft? Das wird jetzt zur Lachnummer.
@RZitelmann hat genauer gelesen, was das DIW tatsächlich geschrieben hat. Etwas verklausuliert - wohl zu hoch für die tumben Linken - hat das DIW etliche Giftpillen in dem Gutachten versteckt, die die SED-Nachfolgerin offensichtlich übersehen hat:
+ Verfassungswidrigkeit (S. 57)
+ wirtschaftliche Risiken (S. 94)
+ Arbeitsplatzverluste und sinkendes Steueraufkommen (S. 90)
Das Beste ist aber, dass das DIW schreibt, dass sich eine Vermögenssteuer nur international koordiniert einführen ließe (S. 88), was historisch einmalig wäre und wonach es eben überhaupt nicht aussieht.
Wohl hat niemand bei der Linken Partei das Gutachten bis zum Ende gelesen. Noch nicht mal unter Zuhilfenahme von KI. Wie faul darf man sein?

A video showing Ali-Akbar Abolhasani, a Sharif University physics professor and son-in-law of senior regime insider Mohammad Javad Larijani, has gone viral on Iranian social media since Saturday after Iranian media said it shows him telling a student protester to “go look for your friends at Kahrizak morgue.”
The remark, made during a confrontation with protesting students at Sharif University in Tehran, refers to the Kahrizak forensic complex in southern Tehran, which became a flashpoint after videos emerged showing families searching among body bags following the January 7–8 crackdown that left more than 36,500 people dead.
The footage circulated widely as universities reopened and students held memorial gatherings for those killed in the January unrest.
Online reaction intensified after users identified Abolhasani as the son-in-law of Javad Larijani, brother of Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme Council for National Security.
The US Treasury on January 15 sanctioned Ali Larijani and other senior officials it described as architects of a “brutal crackdown on peaceful demonstrators,” citing thousands of deaths and injuries since protests began in December.
Abolhasani, who has held senior administrative roles at Sharif University and has publicly backed hardline political figures, has not publicly commented on the video.
