R to @FSBuchholzer: Evidence-based rational vaccine policies are based on providing the vaccine where there is a net beneficial effect. By preaching mass vaccination when >99% of neonates, born to HBsAg-negative mothers, have no benefit (but risk of arm), your efforts are contraproductive & harmful.
@FSBuchholzer 01.10 08:32
Whether to provide hep. B vaccination at birth depends mainly on the local epidemiology of the infection, which is the reason why the vast majority of high-income countries only offers hep. B vaccine to neonates born to mothers that are HBsAg-positive. https://x.com/FSBuchholzer/status/1882081557898465372
@FSBuchholzer 01.10 08:32
R to @FSBuchholzer: Among the weakest arguments out there, made by @dr_andrealove, is stuff like this about how dangerous the infection is, & how easy you can get it. Hep B is very rare in high-income countries & vertical transmission (mother to child) is irrelevant when the mother tested negative.

In randomized trial of their covid vaccine, @pfizer found birth defects in 8 babies to 156 vaccinated pregnant mothers and in 2 babies to 159 unvaccinated mothers, for a relative risk of RR=4.1, p=0.049. When asked at ACIP meeting, Pfizer did not explain. https://www.pfizer.com/news/announcements/pfizer-upholds-commitment-transparency-and-shares-analysis-covid-19-vaccination

Most so-called “anti-vaccine” activists I know didn’t start out that way — they became skeptical because they, or someone they love, were harmed. Some even supported vaccination by volunteering for clinical trials, only to be injured, denied proper care, and have their lives upended. My daughter is one of them. You highlighted her and me in your article “Covid vaccines for children are coming. So is misinformation.” Yet instead of acknowledging the very real suffering caused, you chose to gaslight and dismiss it. You should be ashamed. By the way, my daughter is still in a wheelchair today, dealing with a long list of complications that began less than 12 hours after her second dose. And while you silence dissent by limiting comments to supporters, I allow all perspectives — even the harsh ones — because real dialogue shouldn’t be one-sided.

R to @OmicronData: ...would you be surprised to hear this person meets the criteria for an autism diagnosis? Even though this could equally be the description almost of a sullen, gaming, teenager?
@OmicronData 23.09 08:29
R to @OmicronData: If I said there was a person who did the following: - didn't make eye contact when talking to you - had relatively few friends, and didn't seek to make them - repeats certain words heavily - doesnt usually start conversations - had a particular special interest above all others
@OmicronData 23.09 08:25
To those who think autism has increased significantly (by which I mean, the numbers affected have increased significantly), I ask - what do you think of when you think of autism? I suspect that the perception is vastly different from the actual (and the diagnostic criteria).
@OmicronData RT von @OmicronData 23.09 08:11
Occam's razor applies here. Definition of "autism" changed (substantially) in the early 1990s. And awareness is hugely different now than 40 years ago. Everything points to an increase in recognition and diagnosis, not an increase in actual prevalence.

Fear messaging and guilting parents is bad public health
@OmicronData 23.09 06:28
R to @OmicronData: This very strongly demonstrates that the causal link is actually an undocumented confounder, *not* the painkiller itself.
@OmicronData RT von @OmicronData 23.09 06:28
And, as will come to a surprise to basically no-one who knows anything about this stuff, the observed risk ratio here is actually very similar to that observed when taking painkillers *other than* Tylenol: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7170759/
@OmicronData 23.09 06:19
R to @OmicronData: In other words, it comes as literally zero surprise to me that a study finds higher painkillers use in mothers who ultimately have autistic children (which is all the study actually finds). But this is in no way the same as saying that use has *caused* this issue.
@OmicronData 23.09 06:14
R to @OmicronData: This is your regular reminder that correlation ≠ causation.
@OmicronData 23.09 06:14
R to @OmicronData: In other words, simply by virtue of the child having autism, the mother is roughly 5x more likely to have autism, and hence is more likely on average to have more chronic pain.
@OmicronData 23.09 06:14
R to @OmicronData: I.e. by virtue of having an autistic child, you are predisposed, on average, to take more painkillers*anyway*, prior to having that child. This would explain why sibling studies (i e. Where this uncontrolled confounder is effectively controlled), shows no such correlation.
@OmicronData 23.09 06:14
R to @OmicronData: All 3 of these conditions, and others, cause, or can cause...physical pain. In addition to this, while studies vary somewhat, there is a general consensus that there is at least a slightly heightened sensitivity to pain in autism generally.
