P-hacking is bad because you're giving a positive signal to something that is almost certainly false. You're actively polluting the scientific literature with mirages. A null result isn't a failed experiment. An experiment is never a failure if it is designed and executed well. Publishing null results actively helps the scientific community by narrowing the pool of plausible alternatives to test. It makes discovering what's actually true easier.

Question for the Labor Party and their Education Minister: Is there a single #Trans child at a Muslim school in this country? If not - why not? Where's the investigation into 'diversity' and 'equity'? Are Muslim schools adhering to the same legally-binding guidelines and aggressive trans activism that Christian schools are forced to? Are there rainbow flags in their classrooms? Do they allow girls to ditch their headscarves and dress as boys if they 'identify' that way? I'm going to guess Labor does not force the issue in delicate electorates. I'm going to further guess that Labor respects the religious preference of Muslims - but NOT Christians. Am I wrong?

Beware of Artificial Interlligence. When I wrote “clorpromazine the first neuroleptic” on Google, this was what I got: “Chlorpromazine, introduced in 1952 as the first, truly effective antipsychotic (neuroleptic) drug, revolutionized psychiatry by allowing for the management of schizophrenia, hallucinations, and agitation, often eliminating the need for long-term institutionalization.” It could hardly be more misleading. The effect of these drugs is so small that it is way below the least clinically relevant effect; they did not revolutionise anything as the effect is totally unspecific, which is why they were called major tranquillisers 70 years ago when psychiatrists were more honest than today; asylums were emptied because they were expensive to run, it had nothing to do with the effect of neuroleptics; and the drugs make it more difficult to function, not less difficult. What AI did was to dutifully regurgitate the psychiatric industry-inspired folklore, which is totally and utterly wrong, and very harmful, too.
@PGtzsche1 11.03 05:49
Australian psychiatrist Neill McLaren has read the background papers for the upcoming DSM 6, the American Psychiatric Association’s heavy disease manual. http://bit.ly/4s5ru8i. As usual, a lot of pompous statements with no substance. Neill concludes: “What utter rubbish. Nothing has changed.” It is all about what might be found in future, but surely, won’t be found. The APA claim that “In the 45 years since the publication of DSM-III, knowledge about psychiatric disorders, the psychosocial and cultural impact on them, their treatment, and their biology has evolved tremendously.” This is a huge lie. Above all, biological psychiatry has led to absolutely nothing, apart from harming the patients tremendously.

You can dump as much money as you want in to a fraud riddled program like Medicaid, and you'll just get more Learing Centers. We spend about $10k a year on non-disabled adults in Medicaid. The problem isn't a lack of funding. It's that the money doesn't reach the patients.

Malthus was actually right - but only for the pre-capitalist era. Prior to 1700 in the West (and prior to mid-20th century in the East), each time humanity had a population boom, it was followed by a bust. The problem is that Malthus was no Schumpeter. He wasn't even an Adam Smith. He simply didn't understand capitalism. CAPITALISM CHANGED ALL RULES OF THE GAME, by (a) ensuring that even a common peasant's son could achieve high level of education and training, and (b) releasing the creative potential of billions of commoners. As a result, food became abundant and extremely cheap - and science could tap resources for research and production. Sadly, almost all PH textbooks are smitten by Malthus. One of my tasks in the PH textbook is to demolish not only Marx (e.g. Virchow) but Malthus.

1. A truly stunning example of what is called an "ad hoc hypothesis", i.e. a secondary hypothesis added to a theory specifically to save it from being falsified when evidence for its original version is missing or contradictory. (in this case, the long lost intermediate host)
