Neue Wohnung, aber hey — offene Küche. Restaurant statt Meal Prep. Taxi statt U-Bahn. Ein Abo hier, ein Abo da. Netflix, Spotify, Gym, iCloud, YouTube Premium, irgendein Tool das ich dreimal benutzt hab.
Ich hab in einem Monat mehr für Essen ausgegeben als mein Vater für sein erstes Auto bezahlt hat.
Das Krasse: Ich hab es nicht gemerkt. Kein einziger Moment, in dem ich dachte "Stopp, das läuft aus dem Ruder." Es kam schleichend. Ein bisschen mehr hier, ein Upgrade dort. Jede einzelne Entscheidung für sich war vernünftig. In der Summe war es Wahnsinn.
Lifestyle Creep nennt man das. Dein Einkommen steigt — und deine Ausgaben steigen mit. Der Grund hat nichts mit Gier zu tun. Dein Standard verschiebt sich, und du merkst es erst, wenn du auf den Kontoauszug schaust.
Was vor zwei Jahren Luxus war, ist heute normal. Und was heute normal ist, fühlt sich morgen nach dem Minimum an.
Du verdienst dreimal so viel wie vor fünf Jahren. Und sparst exakt gleich viel.
Sag mir, dass ich falsch liege.
Irgendwann hab ich auf meine Zahlen geschaut. Mehr verdient als je zuvor — und trotzdem weniger auf der Seite als im Jahr davor. Kein Crash, kein Schock von außen. Nur eine Zahl auf dem Bildschirm, die nicht zusammengepasst hat mit dem Bild in meinem Kopf.
Das war mein Weckruf.
Dann lag ein Buch auf meinem Tisch. Bodo Schäfer. "Der Weg zur finanziellen Freiheit." Ich hab mich gefragt, warum mir das niemand mit 18 in die Hand gedrückt hat.
Eine Idee daraus hat alles verändert: Das Kontenmodell.
Klingt langweilig. Ist es auch. Und genau deshalb funktioniert es.
Ich hab mein Geld auf drei Töpfe aufgeteilt. Spar-Konto — das, was wächst und nicht angefasst wird. Rücklagen — das Polster für den Moment, in dem das Leben zuschlägt. Und ein Spaß-Konto.
Das war der Gamechanger.
Weil Spaß-Konto bedeutet: Du MUSST es ausgeben. Jeden Monat. Ohne schlechtes Gewissen. Essen gehen, Reisen, der Quatsch den du willst. Aber nur aus diesem Topf.
Das hat mein Verhältnis zu Geld komplett gedreht. Vorher war jede Ausgabe ein Kampf zwischen Vernunft und Impuls. Jetzt hatte beides seinen Platz. Der Impuls durfte leben — in einem Rahmen. Und alles andere lief automatisch.
Bevor ich morgens einen Cent sehe, sind die Töpfe gefüllt. Lifestyle Creep braucht Zugang zu deinem Geld — nimm ihm den Zugang.
Und dann die Erkenntnis, die am meisten wehtut.
Es gibt eine Zahl. Einen Betrag, ab dem du zufrieden bist. Miete bezahlt. Kühlschrank voll. Urlaub drin. Keine Angst vor der nächsten Rechnung. Für manche sind das 2.000 im Monat, für andere 3.000, für manche 5.000. Die Zahl ist egal — du kennst deine eigene Zahl.
Jeder Euro darüber macht dich nicht glücklicher.
Du denkst, er tut es. Du bist dir sicher. Aber er tut es nicht. Das nächste Gehalt, der nächste Deal, das nächste Level — du erwartest ein Gefühl, das nie kommt. Weil du die Schwelle längst überschritten hast.
Mehr verdienen hat mein Leben besser gemacht — bis zu einem Punkt. Ab da stieg nur noch der Standard. Und mit einem höheren Standard wächst nicht das Glück — nur die monatlichen Fixkosten.
Compounding ist der letzte Baustein. Die Theorie kennt jeder. Wie es sich anfühlt, wenn es wirklich greift — das musst du erleben.
Die ersten Monate fühlen sich nach nichts an. Nach einem Jahr: immer noch nicht aufregend. Nach zwei Jahren merkst du was. Nach drei verstehst du es. Nicht im Kopf — im Bauch.
Vermögen entsteht nicht durch einen genialen Moment. Es entsteht durch tausend langweilige Entscheidungen hintereinander.
Du wirst das hier lesen und nicken. Du wirst dir vornehmen, ab morgen was zu ändern. Und in zwei Wochen hast du es vergessen. Dein Gehirn ist so gebaut. Der nächste Impuls schlägt die beste Einsicht. Jedes Mal.
Der Unterschied zwischen Leuten, die Vermögen aufbauen, und dem Rest: Ein System. Kein Vorsatz, kein guter Wille, kein "ab Montag." Ein System, das läuft, ob du motiviert bist oder nicht.
Bau dir eins.

One idea from this changed everything: the account model.
Sounds boring. It is too. And that's exactly why it works.
I divided my money into three pots. Savings account — that which grows and is not touched. Reserves - the cushion for the moment when life strikes. And a fun account.
That was the game changer.
Because fun account means: You MUST spend it. Every month. Without a guilty conscience. Eating out, traveling, whatever nonsense you want. But only from this pot.
That completely changed my relationship with money. Before, every issue was a battle between reason and impulse. Now both had their place. The impulse was allowed to live — within a framework. And everything else was automatic.
Before I see a cent in the morning, the pots are filled. Lifestyle Creep needs access to your money — take away their access.
And then the realization that hurts the most.
There is a number. An amount above which you are satisfied. Rent paid. Fridge full. Vacation included. Don't worry about the next bill. For some it's 2,000 a month, for others it's 3,000, for some it's 5,000. The number doesn’t matter — you know your own number.
Every euro above that doesn't make you happier.
You think he does. You are sure. But he doesn't. The next salary, the next deal, the next level — you expect a feeling that never comes. Because you have long since crossed the threshold.
Earning more has made my life better — to a point. From there the standard only increased. And with a higher standard, happiness doesn't increase - only the monthly fixed costs.
