This is the sad state of science journalism right now.
What happened around the NIH event at the Willard Hotel is a telling example. The event was full. Roughly 400 people had registered. Many were turned away due to logistics.
I was told by multiple sources that one journalist showed up anyway and harassed event staff. One reportedly followed staff around while provoking them and recording the interaction. Another like this person Paul is referencing publicly virtue-signaled, claiming they were excluded, when in reality the event was simply full and he didn't sign up in time.
Journals like Science and Nature continue to manufacture a narrative and insert themselves into the story. Yet, they don't disclose their financial COIs when they have their reporters behaving this way.
This is the sad state of science journalism coming from outlets that are claiming to be the most credible sources for science. Performance takes precedence. The journalist becomes the protagonist.
The result is predictable: erosion of public trust because those tasked with covering it abandon basic standards of journalistic integrity.

Privately, they joked that virus hunters had caused a pandemic with a virus "beautifully adapted to human transmission."
This type of research remains untracked & unregulated.

Deshalb hat ‚Aufstehen für die Kunst‘ im November 2025 beim Europäischen Gerichtshof für Menschenrechte (EGMR) eine Beschwerde gegen diese Entscheidung eingereicht. Die Kläger sind die Geigerin Anne-Sophie Mutter, Dirigent Thomas Hengelbrock und die Sänger Kevin Conners und Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke. Der EGMR soll nun klären, ob die lange Corona-Schließung der Kulturbranche gegen die Kunstfreiheit, die Berufsfreiheit und die Gleichbehandlung verstoßen hat.“

The mammography screening censorship is particularly telling since the data has been public since 2001 yet Cochrane still rejected publication based on potential "firestorm" concerns.”

Can Cochrane’s new CEO save the sinking ship? Her decisions so far suggest she will go down with the ship. See my article: https://bit.ly/45LAvua. The CEO, psychiatrist Karla Soares-Weiser, has had leading roles in Cochrane since 2015 but every time she was involved with an important matter, she chose the wrong option. She focussed on what she thought was most beneficial for the Cochrane club even though her decisions were harmful for Cochrane’s trustworthiness and the users of Cochrane.
She failed in relation to psychiatry, mammography screening, face masks, vaccines (DTP, HPV and Covid), allowed authors to be funded by the company whose product is under review, and did not to issue an apology for Cochrane’s serious defamation and lies related to one of its best-known scientists whom they expelled for no good reason whatsoever after a show trial.
A CEO that refuses to see the iceberg, accepts that guild and financial interests are more important than getting the science right, and allows publication of politically expedient but seriously misleading Cochrane reviews and press releases while preventing high-quality, unbiased reviews from being published, or undermine them publicly without even consulting the authors, cannot save the sinking ship
